Renew Passport Malta Requirements

To renew your passport, you’ll need to visit the Passport Office in person. There, you will:

  • Fill out Form A (sections 1, 2, 5, and 9)
  • Present your Malta ID (along with a front and back copy)
    • If you live abroad and don’t have a Malta ID, you can replace it with a passport photo endorsed by a recommender, and you’ll need to fill out section 7 of Form A with your recommender, who must also sign and stamp it)
  • Previous passport

At the office, you’ll have biometric data collected again.

The fees and wait times are the same as getting a new passport, and you’ll need to pick it up in person from the office.

This process renews your Malta passport for another 10 years.

What if my Maltese passport is lost, damaged, or destroyed?

You can replace your passport using the same process outlined above. However, there will be an added €11 fee if the passport you are replacing is still valid.

Can I get a Malta passport?

Citizens of Malta are eligible for a passport.

At the regular fee of €70-80, it will take 4 days to get your passport. For a rush fee of €140, you can get it in as little as 4 hours.

However, if you have missing information or a missing document, the process can take longer or come to a complete halt.

For standard, 4-day processing, you’ll pay a fee based on the time of year. €70 between September and March. €80 between April and August.

For a €140 fee, you can expedite the process to 4 hours.

If you are replacing a lost, damaged, or missing passport that’s still valid, you pay an additional €11.
